The Doroteo Arroyo & Juan Ruberte Scholarship continues a long APRCC tradition of investing in students, families, and community leadership. Historical APRCC materials note that the scholarship has awarded approximately $280,000 since its creation, helping students pursue college, university, and vocational training.
The program reflects APRCC’s broader mission: preserving Puerto Rican heritage, expanding educational opportunity, and strengthening civic connection across the Aurora community.

APRCC scholarships support individuals who demonstrate academic effort, community involvement, and financial need. Eligible students may be enrolled, returning, or planning to enroll part-time or full-time at a community college, university, or trade school in the United States or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Award Amount
Scholarship awards generally range from $250 to $1,000.

Eligibility & Application

Applicants Must
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Be enrolled, returning, or planning to enroll in a community college, university, or trade school
- Be enrolled part-time or full-time during the applicable academic year
- Reside in Aurora or within a 50-mile radius of Aurora

- One-page typed personal statement
- Official transcript
- Two current letters of recommendation
The personal statement should include the applicant’s educational goals, career plans, community service involvement, and financial need. Recommendation letters should include the recommender’s email address and phone number.

What Happens Next
Recipient notification and scholarship payment.
Selected recipients will be contacted following committee review. Scholarship funds are issued directly to the recipient’s academic institution after APRCC receives the required acceptance materials and proof of enrollment.
Recipients may also be recognized during APRCC community programming, including the Aurora Puerto Rican Heritage Festival.
